A note from the owner, Elizabeth Fox (formerly Hauris)...
One of my favorite parts of my job has always been sourcing craft materials for our history boxes. Back in the early days, time spent hunting for just the right materials felt like shopping for presents. I would imagine the excitement and joy of the students receiving unique learning materials such as a beautiful calligraphy set or a real drinking horn. As the company grew, it got even better. Not only were we able to find usual and engaging products to put in our boxes, but we started making a real difference in the businesses of entrepreneurs running small companies all over the world. History Unboxed® reached a point where the volume of our orders actively improved the lives of native and traditional craftsman and business owners. Many of the materials we use to delight students are also sourced from the cultures we are teaching about. How cool is that?
Now the not so fun part. For several years we have worked hard to keep our pricing consistent, but with so many new tariffs in effect, it is no longer a possibility to absorb both inflation and rising import costs. Tariffs, in their most simplified form, are a tax on importers, including micro importers sourcing from independent craftsman such as History Unboxed®. At this time we are still able to absorb a large part of the increased cost due to working hard to cut costs in production and increasing efficiency over the last several years. However the time has come where we can't do it all.
Starting today there will be a 5% tariff surcharge to all orders. We will continue to diligently to find ways to ethically save money and continue to improve the materials our customers receive.
Thank you for supporting us and other tiny businesses all over the world.
